• Jarlshof abandoned. The site lay very much covered by sand dunes until a violent storm in 1905 uncovered part of it.

• The Providence (1680), a sloop, of Egilsay, Orkney wrecked in Bressay Sound.

• The vessel King Soloman. of Hamburg, Germany wrecked or foundered at one of the locations on Yell know as 'Burravoe'.

• An unidentified vessel, laden with a cargo of mutton and tallow wrecked at Hos Wick, Sandwick.

• Thomas Hunter of Lunna, the third Hunter of Lunna House, was born. He succeeded his elder brother William, who died in 1702 without heir.
