• Blessed Endeavour Shipwrecked on Fair Isle.
• A volunteer corps was formed for the defense of the islands under the command of Major Walter Scott, Sheriff-Substitute. It disbanded in 1802.

• 17th
  John Bruce, who became the tenth Laird of Sumburgh, was born.

March

• 20th
  A small boat with four men, coming from the sea, was lost near Huxter, Sandness.
  Those lost were George Fraser of Houll, Scott Laurenson of Knowe, George Laurenson of Houll, and John Fraser of Norby.
