  Poet and novelist Dorothea Primrose Campbell died.
• 17th
  *William Gibson Sloan, a Plymouth Brethren missionary to Shetland and the Faroe Islands visited Shetland for the first time. He died on his 76th birthday, Sept. 04 1914 in his home in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.

  The Gesina, a Galliot, shipwrecked at St Ninian's Isle, Bigton.

• 9th
  Foundation stone laid for St Magnus Church in Lerwick.
• 18th
  The George Canning, a sloop or smack, of and from Lerwick for North Roe struck a reef and wrecked near Ollaberry.

July

• Prince Alfred visited Lerwick.

September

• 16th
  Sir Arthur Nicolson died at Norwood, aged 69.
• 23rd
  William Arthur Bruce (2), who later became the ninth Laird Bruce of Symbister, was born.

• 16th
  Robina Hunter Bell, heiress to the Lunna estate, died. The estate now went to her eldest son Robert Hunter Bell.
