- The Roman Catholic St Margaret's Church in Lerwick was built.
- Birth of George Waterston, former Scottish Director of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Waterston purchased Fair Isle in 1947. In 1948 he co-founded the Fair Isle Bird Observatory.
- St Clement's Hall was built.

Author George Stewart dies on Vancouver Island, Canada.

The Mary (1911), a schooner, for Fair Isle, wrecked on the Wilsness side of Grutness Voe. All of the crew were saved.

Thomas (Tom) Henderson, the first curator of Shetland Museum was born.

- 30th
The Strathavon, a wooden hulled sailing smack, of Lerwick wrecked at Broonies Taing, Hos Wick, Sandwick.
November

The Columbine, a wooden hulled cutter, while in service as a packet boat between Fair Isle and the Shetland Mainland, and laden with a cargo of cattle, drove from anchor and wrecked at either South Haven or South Harbour, Fair Isle.
