  • Shetland Black, the famous Shetland potatoe, was added to the National Collection in 1923 but probably dates from Victorian times when there was a great deal of potato breeding using coloured varieties.

    100 herring drifters average 100 crans.
  • 19th
    ss Jane (1923) wrecked on Linga, north of Fetlar.

August

  • 9th
    Bruce Hostel for girls opened.

October

  • 10th
    Wreckage reported sighted with Fair Isle South Lighthouse, at a position 70 degrees E 11 miles. The identity, source and fate of which remains unknown.

December

  • 5th
    General Election, Robert William Hamilton wins with a majority of 811
