- Only 14 sail boats remained in the local fishing fleet, down 24 vessels in only four years. The rest being powered by steam, paraffin etc engines.

The Shetland herring drifter, Kildonan (LK 119) caught fire, was abandoned, and assumed to have sunk at a position approx 15 miles NW of Sumburgh Head.

Lerwick first lit by electricity. The Power Station was in Market Street and was owned by Lerwick Town Council.
The electricity supplied to customers was DC (direct current) until some time after 1947, when the Hydro-Electric Board took over the running of the station, and the new station at Holmsgarth was completed in 1953.

The Provide (LK210), a motor drifter fishing vessel, of Lerwick, was beached on the west side of the isle of Mousa, Sandwick after going on fire.
