  The Shetland Times becomes one of the first newspapers in the UK to publish some of its pages on the internet.

May

• 11th
  After a complete refurbishment, The Swan was relaunched in Lerwick harbour.
• 20th
  Whilst on approach to Tingwall airport in strong crosswinds,the Loganair air ambulance crashed short of the runway.
  The pilot, Alan Young was killed. Nurse Maureen Polson removes Dr Gerald Freshwater from the wreckage.
• 21st
  Photographer Bobby Tulloch died.
