Aithsvoe with the pier in Cunningsburgh

Aithsvoe, also called Aith Voe, (HU439285), old Norse : "Eidsvagr" = The bay at the istmus, in the village of Cunningsburgh, on the east side of the South Shetland Mainland, is the only safe, all year round, anchorage on the east side of the south Mainland.
A pier facility is located on the west shore, while the Aithsvoe Marina with 40 berths was completed on the east shore in 2004.

The Gratis wrecked on Cruss, approx. 500m south of the pier in the voe in the spring of 1810, as did the Elida which struck a reef at the entrance on November 25th 1864, the Freya wrecked in the mouth of the voe on June 6th 1877, as did the Sovereign in September 1886, and the Victory wrecked in the voe in 1900.
