The America Merchant, a full rigged ship, laden with a cargo of tobacco, Captain Boyd, registered in Glasgow, Scotland. While in passage from Virginia, U.S.A. to Glasgow, Scotland, wrecked "near" Sumburgh in February 1711. Fitful Head, the West Voe of Sumburgh and Sumburgh Head are listed as possible locations. Some of the crew were saved, the actual number however is unknown.
