Andrew Stewart

Andrew Stewart, author of North Punds, Levenwick, Levenwick Bay (poems), was born on the 6th of December 1796 in Lerwick, the son of Dr. John Stewart, who reputedly fought at Culloden on the side of the Jacobites and his wife Janet Isbister.

Andrew Stewart married Christian Mouat (b. 1798, Nether Levenwick, Sandwick) on the 12th of December, 1821 at Sandwick. In the 1851 Census, they are resident at South Moull, Dunrossness and in 1861, at North Punds, Dunrossness. The couple had five children, the oldest of whom was the author George Stewart who, in partnership with his brother John, established the firm of J&G Stewart of Leith.

Andrew died on the 16th of December 1884.
