The Ardent, a brig laden with a cargo of oats, 126 NRT, built 1818, registered in Cardigan, Wales, Captain Dodding or Doddington.

While in passage from Limerick, Ireland to Liverpool, England this vessel stranded in the Bay of Quendale, Dunrossness on either September 11th or 12th 1856 (the available records are in dispute), all of the crew were saved.

By the 18th she had become so embedded in the sand of the Quendale Sand that there was no hope of refloating her, and she was declared a total wreck. Some materials were saved from the vessel, and the records note that plans were afoot to salvage a small amount of her cargo, subject to favourable weather conditions, but it is not noted if these plans bore fruition.
