Sir Arthur Nicolson (born 1794 at Lerwick, died September 16, 1863 at Norwood aged 69) was the son of Arthur Nicolson of Lochend (a direct descendent of Bishop Nicolson of Dunkeld) and Mary (daughter of Alexander Innes, community clerk of Aberdeen). In 1821 he married Eliza Jane Jack, daughter of Rev. William Jack, D.D., the principal of the University and King's College, Aberdeen. He succeeded as heir male a distant relative, Sir James Nicolson, and became seventh baronet of Nova Scotia in 1826. The family seats were Brough Lodge on the western end of Fetlar, and Gremista near Lerwick. On his death in 1863, the baronetcy passed to his cousin, Arthur Bolt Nicolson.
