The Barbara, a wooden hulled sail sloop, 33 net or gross tons (the available records are in dispute), Owner Hay & Ogilvy, Lerwick, Captain Petrie, registered in Lerwick. While in passage from Peterhead, Scotland to Lerwick, or from Lerwick to an unspecified destination (the available records are in dispute), all of the crew were washed overboard and lost somewhere in the vicinity of the Sumburgh Roost between Sumburgh Head and Fair Isle. The vessel was subsequently discovered with all sails set, but totally abandoned, by local men from Fair Isle who towed her in to the South Harbour, Fair Isle, from where she later drove from anchor and wrecked during April 1822.

Wreckage from the vessel was reported at Sumburgh Head and the Bay of Quendale.
