Garth Wick, (HU355115), on the southwest corner of the South Shetland Mainland, between Garths Ness and Siggars Ness, on the south end of Fitful Head, holds the unwanted distinction of being the site of the Braer oil tanker wreck on 5th January 1993.
Just above the beach in Garth Wick is the ruins of the crofting community of Garth which was one of the victims of the clearances by the lairds in the late 19th century.
