The Girdleness, a moored wooden hull hulk coal storage barge, 18 metres length, developed a leak and sank at her moorings in November 1941 at a position 650 metres from the Loofa Baa Beacon near the Holm of Cruester, Bressay Sound.

An unsuccessful salvage attempt was undertaken in 1942. The wreck lies in a maximum of 12 metres.
