The opening ceremony of the kirk in Gulberwick was held on the 12th of June 1898. The kirk was built on a site that was granted by the Marquis of Shetland for a rent of one shilling a year.
The building costs was £388.7s.1d. The price of the bell was £1o.11s.7d, and to erect it, £3.

Until 1722 there were three kirks in Gulberwick, at Brindister, Wick, and Trebister.
