Harald I (Fairhair or Finehair),(Norwegian Harald Hårfagre, Old Norse Haraldur hinn hárfagri (* ca. 852; † 933) was the first Norwegian High King who held powers in most of the Norwegian territories.
According to the Saga Literature (Orkneyinga Saga, Heimskringla etc.) it happened under his reign that the Norwegian settlement in Orkney and Shetland began. He offered his friend Ragnvald Mørejarl, (En.Rognvald Earl of Møre), the title Jarl of Orkney (including Shetland), but he waived the offer and gave it to his brother Sigurd, who became the first Jarl.
