The Holm of Melby is a small islet which lies on the south side of the Sound of Papa, and about 600 metres north from the shore of Melby in Sandness, across the bay called Kaila.
It measures approximately 350 by 250 metres and rises to a height of 20 metres.
There are cairns at its highest point, and there is a natural arch at the north west corner.
Between the Holm of Melby and Papa Stour, on the other side of the Sound of Papa, is Forewick Holm which has been re-named Forvik Island, and declared a crown dependency, by Stuart Hill.
