Housay is the largest of the inhabited islands which form the Out Skerries. The other inhabited island is Bruray, and the third island in the group is Grunay, which was home to the keepers for the Out Skerries Lighthouse, on nearby Bound Skerry, until the light was automated in.1972
The Kirk and cemetery are located on Housay
Housay is separated from Bruray by two sea inlets called North Mouth and South Mouth, and where they meet a bridge was built in 1957 to connect the two islands, giving access for Housay residents to the airstrip and ferry terminal which are located on Bruray.
The Liefde was wrecked on the south side of Mio Ness on November 11th 1711, the Sprightly drove from anchor and was wrecked at Boorth Noost on the isle on September 18th 1896, and the Nordwind was wrecked 400 yards SW of Ubda on December 16th 1906.
