J. W. (Willie) Leask, born at Rompa, Levenwick, on 22nd January 1934, wrote many articles for the Shetland Life magazine. Including the regular feature, "Bess, Tales of a Middle-Aged Sheepdog". Stories of crofting life as seen through the eyes of a sheepdog. A collection of which were published in a 48 page volume of the same title, by The Shetland Times in 1985
Willie was also known locally as "Willie da Skin", because during his crofting days at Ireland, Bigton, he was well known for curing sheepskins.
Willie also served as SIC councilor for the Dunrossness North ward during the late 70's.
Willie died in Surrey, England, on 11th May 2004
