James Grierson, born 1787. The eldest son, and eldest of seven children of Andrew Grierson and Agnes Grant. He died on December 10th 1863 at Quendale. On December 30th 1830 he married Elizabeth Sinclair Craigie, born 1796 at Edinburgh, Scotland. Died November 22nd 1858 at Quendale. The eldest daughter, and eldest of two children of William Thomas Craigie, merchant in Leith, Edinburgh. Born Lerwick January 22nd 1767. Died Leith, August 26th 1827, and Elizabeth Mitchell Sinclair, born before 1778 at Brew, Dunrossness Died March 27th 1850. Elizabeth Sinclair Craigie was a descendant via her mother, of the Sinclair family who'd formerly owned the by then defunct Sinclair of Brew family estate. They produced four descendants.

Upon the death of his father Andrew Grierson, the third Laird of the Grierson of Quendale family estate, on either February 12th or June 30th 1835, James Grierson became his successor and the fourth Laird of the Grierson of Quendale family estate.

Upon James Grierson's death on December 10th 1863 he was succeeded by his eldest son Andrew John Grierson (2) who became the fifth laird of the Grierson of Quendale family estate. Andrew John Grierson (2) being a descendant of the Sinclair of Brew family via his mother, and as the Sinclair of Quendale family from whom his great-grandfather Andrew John Grierson had purchased the Grierson of Quendale family estate from in 1766, was also descended for the Sinclair of Brew family, Andrew John Grierson (2)'s succession to the Grierson of Quendale family estate saw its ownership fall back, in a manner of speaking, in to ownership of the same Sinclair family again in just under 100 years.
