John McGill, resident of Lerwick in the 1970s, when he was an energetic and inspirational teacher of English at the Anderson High School, is the author of That Rubens Guy: stories from a Glasgow tenement and Giraffes: A Glasgow Novel. He contributed widely to local culture during his time in the isles and was a moving force behind The Shetland Review, (Thuleprint, 1978), in which his atmospheric story 'Inga' has a Shetland setting.
