Laying The Wind
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
The following is an incantation understood to have been in common use until at least in to the 19th Century to Lay The Wind (cause the wind strength to abate). It is understood only certain individuals possessed the "power" to make it work.
"Robbin cam ower da vanna wi' a shü nü; Twabbie, Toobie, Keeliken, Kollickin, Paltrick alanks da robin. Güid sober da wind".
To be recited with right arm raised and "sawing" the wind.
