Self Raising Flour - Alternative
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
As some of the recipes use 'Self Raising' flour, which isn't available in some countries, the following is a simple way to make your own.
Ingredients
- 4 lb Plain flour,
- 2 oz Cream of tartar,
- 1 oz Bicarbonate of soda,
- Note: Baking powder, contains both Cream of Tartar and Bicarbonate of Soda, so using 3oz of that should give the same results.
Method
- 1. Sieve these to together, twice to mix thoroughly,
- 2. Keep in a air tight jar or tin,
- 3. The longer you keep it the lighter it gets,
- 4. This can be used to make the recipes which specify self raising flour,
- 5. Because each batch flour varies you may need test it and play with measurements in this mix.
