    • b) choose Shetland Islands for the Council box.
      • In case a) you will get all the entries listed around a specific island,
      • In case b) you will get a list of all wrecks around Shetland.

The list will produce all known wrecks including WWI warships or more modern Soviet Klondykers but in some cases the entries are quite "poor" and have to be checked otherwise.

  • You can possibly narrow your search by adding a year or a place name in the Keywords box.
    • Note. Many place name spellings in the records may have changed since the time of the wreck.

When working with the RCAHMS records, please note, that maritime monuments are a comparatively new subject to the commission. Following an agreement of the Scottish, English and Welsh heritage organizations, maritime monuments were added only since the late 1990 years and the records are still "a work in progress". Due to different sources which are aligned here to one comprehensive record you will probably find more than one entry for one and the same wreck, sometimes offering slightly different information.

If you identify any wreck that should be added to our Shetlopedia lists, please feel free to add it under the name of the boat on an individual site designated to the "Category: Shetland Shipwrecks" and leave a note under the specific year in our "Category:Years".
