South Scousburgh is a small settlement on the west side of the South Shetland Mainland with picturesque views over Spiggie Loch, Spiggie Beach, and Scousburgh Sand.
History
Although today, as it has been for several centuries, South Scousburgh is considered an integral part of the overall Scousburgh settlement, it has not always been this way. The name South Scousburgh is a relatively recent one, historically the areas was the lands of "Whillygarth", which occupied much of what is South Scousburgh today, plus the small long vanished settlement of "Firva" ("Furvoe" in some old records) at the NE corner of Spiggie Loch, and a few outsets to the SE, E and possibly the N. The lands of "Whillygarth" were owned by, but not an integral part of the Sinclair of Brew family's estate.
