The 1881 OS Map shows St Ola's Church as being in a ruined condition, and situated, along with an adjacent burial ground, just a little distance back from the west coast of Aith Voe, Bressay and a similar distance south of the settlement of Gunnista.
At the kirkyard at Gunnista there is also a 18th century mausoleum to the Hendersons of Gardie.
