Oddrun, The Maid of Norway picture is called Queen Margaret in my collection, and the other one is called Lord Aberdour, Grand Master Mason of Scotland. I assume it is typical Royals with so many names they don't know who they are :-D.
Do you think it would be worth adding the other 4 windows??

Robbie, I just added Islandhoppers information...Queen Margaret seems sensible, she was queen of both Norway and Danmark..I've never heard about the Lord...,Maybe Heimdal knows !!
And those windows are special..add the rest of them !!

And if you look close to the Maid pic,the text says Queen Margaret !!Oddrun 17:41, 6 January 2007 (GMT)

I finally found the right queen, the poor girl was married to the king only 6 years old...and the king was 12..

I must stop talking to myself, :-), but Lord Arberduor later became Earl of Morton, says a searchresult...but it only links to a hotel..and I'm mixing the queen's ages..the maid was older..20..,but it is the right one. She had a daughter with the Norwegian king. She tried to be Queen of Scotland when her brother died childless, but died on the Orkneys on her way to Scotland...
Cheers

Cheers

This is getting crazy, the maid is the right one, but she was the one who died on the Orkneys, only 8 years old..on her way to Scotland from Norway...She was Queen of Scotland from March 19th, 1286 to the 26th of September 1290

-) Talking to yourself finds much information. ;-) You must add those dates to the Years.. .
I will add the other windows after I have washed the dishes..... Don't Ask... It's a punishment for getting drunk at New Year.. :-( .

About Lord Aberdour, later Earl of Morton. The Masonic Lodge in Lerwick is Morton Lodge 89 and that's the reason he's there. I'm not 'one of the Brotherhood' myself, but the Masons seemed to have a much higher profile in those days than today. The Foundation stone of the Town Hall would have been laid with the Lodge members in attendance in their regalia, it would have been laid with a silver trowel and will be in the North East part of the foundation. If my memory serves me, I seem to remember reading that the foundation stone of the Grand Hotel was laid the same day as the Town Hall, both with Masonic Honours and followed by a procession of the 'great and the good', followed by a meal and much speech-making. I don't know the reason for the lower profile, it may just be that formerly all the 'leading lights' of the town were members whereas today the majority are not.

Yes, I think there are some notes in Years about foundation stones being laid with full masonic orders,

Should also have said that this window was probably donated by the order.Heimdal 20:31, 6 January 2007 (GMT)

Yes, just fished out my Town Hall booklet, where it says, The chief feature of the main staircase is the fine stained glass window, the gift of Lodge Morton No.89, representing Lord Aberdour, afterwards Earl of Morton, Grand Master Mason of Scotland, delivering a lecture on Masonry.
