Talk:Reestit Mutton
Shetlopedia - The Shetland Encyclopaedia
Mind aboot da reestit mutton soup Gary, :-) .
It would be great to get various folks ideas of how to make that, I imagine every district is a bit different. Also Oddrun needs to know what I was talking about the other day :-) .

Yes, going to try and gather a few recipes from different family members. Tattie soup and reestit mutton.
Going to try and get a few extra recipes as well, to create the Shetland Recipes category. If anything, it'll give me some things to try out when I'm on my travels.
Cheers

And there are plenty of ways to make Reestit Mutton, not just the tattie soup. We'll just have to collect as many as we can. I'm about to go and take some photos of the reestit mutton hanging up. Hope that doesn't put Oddrun off of trying some.

Mutton and lamb in all 'Shapes' are Yum,Yum...Except 'Dried, smoked Muttonheads'--they eat that farther south..Oddrun 20:53, 2 January 2007 (GMT)
Reestit mutton is like 'spekemat', but with 10x more salt ;)Heimdal 20:57, 2 January 2007 (GMT)
I'm still waiting for the recipe ;-) !!! Cheers, Oddrun 14:30, 27 February 2007 (MST)
Had a pottage of lamb with white cabbage (well, we call it at this time of the year "tipped cabbage" - that are the young plants, a bit shaped like lozenges and not yet the grown round plants) and potatoes today. Roast the bits of lamb (shoulder in a frying pan, then put them in a big pot) add half water, half vegetable fond and the potatoes, later on add the cabbage (and if you like so a finely chopped carrot). White pepper, salt ... let it gently boil until all is ready and the water gone, then add sweet and sour cream and a finish of some muskat and chili pepper ... yum, yum, yum ... ;-) Islandhopper 14:55, 27 February 2007 (MST)
Hello. I'm pleased to have found your site. Can anyone tell me from where I can buy some reestit mutto? Preferably mutton rather than lamb.
- Hi, Wee Lamb.
Reestit Mutton is normally available a bit later in the year, the best quality stuff that is.. I had a look at our Butchers Category, The only one with a website link is Globe Butchers, and there is an enquiry form on their website. I've bought Reestit Mutton from them before, and it was excellent. I wish I could get some myself, but I think importing meat products to Norway is a no-no. So I'll just have to make do with the local stuff, and add a lot of salt when I eat it ;-)
